Innovative Silhouette Photography Ideas

Silhouette Photography is all about capturing against the source of light. Place your object in front of any bright source, and start capturing with different perspectives, different angles, show your level of creativity to its fullest. Getting started with silhouette for me was like, I didn't even knew what it is called. I started capturing, tried different ways of editing, and ended up with a number of creative pictures.

Here we are with 4 innovative ways to capture and edit Silhouette picture. I hope you find them helpful!

1. Black and White detailed Silhouette:

Here is my first ever Silhouette. It's all about how you visualise your output image to be. Talking about this image, I had my expected output preplanned. I worked on it using Snapseed mobile application. Here's how I did it.

  • Capture image, positioning your subject in front of sun or any bright source of light, taking into mind the structure of your object.
  • Play with your creativity and capture your best shots.
  • Go to Snapseed mobile application.
  • All we have to do is make use of "selective" feature on the app.
  • Mark brightness of your object to minimum and that of light source to maximum. Do this a number of times. And you'll end up with something like this.

2. Working with Reflections:

An another attempt which turned out to be great was playing with reflections. Here's how you can do it.
  • Place your subject in front of a small lake or a broken mirror placed on floor (Make sure, the sun is behind your subject).
  • Click pictures of the reflection formed.
  • With just a little editing, your picture is effortlessly ready.

3. Some PicsArt magic:
  • Click a raw picture with no subject, focusing on a particular portion.
  • Import your picture, go to "stickers" and search for some subject you want to add in your picture. Don't forget to add word shadow along with it, for your amazing Silhouette.
  • Erase out unnecessary portion from the sticker to make it more realistic and you are done!

4. Silhouette at home (Easy Hack):

With a little creativity, anything is possible. Stuck at home due to lockdown? Can't find any subject? Then create one.

Using this technique, you can click whatever you want, sitting at home! Let's see how actually it can be done.
  • Draw how you want your subject to be on a piece of paper.
  • Cut that portion carefully.
  • Place your hence formed subject in front of light source and start clicking.
  • You can experiment with different light intensity, different shapes, black and white, give various attempts; trust me, each one is going to be so beautiful!
